The focus is firmly on the gameplay and tactical decisions, not on cutting-edge graphics. Players take the role of both coach and quarterback, which means they control the action on the field while also managing the team behind the scenes.

Playing on Offense

During games, the player controls the offense. Passing is done by dragging back on the quarterback to aim the throw. A dotted line appears to show where the ball might go, and releasing the screen sends the pass toward the receiver.

Running plays work a little differently. After the snap, the ball carrier can be moved in different directions to avoid defenders and find open space. The main goal is to reach the first-down marker within four plays or push forward for a touchdown.

Managing the Team

Away from the field, Retro Bowl adds a layer of team management. Players can draft new talent, hire coordinators, and upgrade the stadium. Keeping players happy and managing the game clock well can make a big difference over a full season.
