About Hexbound
If you miss the rough edges and frantic pace of old-school shooters, Hexbound is worth a look. It takes inspiration from games such as Doom, Hexen, and Blood, then adds its own mix of RPG upgrades and magic. The result is a shooter where you are constantly moving, checking corners, and looking for the next secret.
Keep Moving or Get Hit
The shooting is fast, and standing in one place is usually a bad idea. Strafe from side to side while firing so enemy projectiles have a harder time finding you. You begin with simple weapons, but the arsenal eventually grows to 38 weapons and spells. Magic uses mana, so don't waste your strongest spells on enemies that can be handled with regular firepower.
Search Every Corner
Hexbound has 60 levels spread across five different eras, with locations ranging from medieval castles to Antarctica and Hell. The maps aren't just straight paths to the exit. Hidden switches, secret rooms, keys, ammunition, health, and upgrade points are tucked away in places you might easily miss.
Exploration is especially useful because there are no quick-saves during a level. You need to complete the whole map before your progress is secured back at the Workshop.
Build Your Fighter
The Workshop is where collected experience and upgrade points become important. You can improve weapons, increase attributes such as health or maximum mana, and unlock new spells. Since weapon evolution choices are permanent, think about which weapons you actually enjoy using before spending your points.
Pay attention to enemy patterns too. Some monsters rush straight at you, while tougher enemies are better handled with heavy weapons or elemental magic. Keep moving, search thoroughly, and save your best attacks for when you really need them.
